Chaplaincy is a key presence within the College. The Chaplaincy exists to provide a witness to the Catholic and Christian ethos of the College, while aiming to support all those who study and work in the College, regardless of creed, race, gender or sexual orientation. Thus the Chaplaincy strives to be an inclusive and embracing body.

There are two main ways in which the Chaplaincy witnesses to the Christian, Catholic nature of the College. In the first place there is a commitment to the spiritual life of all at St Brendan's. Some key elements of this are:

  • Masses on most Wednesdays at 8:10am.
  • Prayer time led by members of the LAMB (Lassallian Mission in Bristol), a Catholic De La Salle community.
  • Other services to mark significant occasions.
  • Kintbury visits (twice a year: autumn and spring).
  • Dulverton and mini retreat opportunities.
  • Occasional trips abroad to Taizé, Rome or Lourdes.
  • Other services to mark special seasons and festivals.

The second key area in which the College Chaplaincy functions is that of Christian discussion and action. These take place as double sessions over lunch, or at the times stated, and are held either in the chapel or in a meeting room:

  • Student Prayer Groups (Mondays).
  • Human Rights Watch (Tuesdays).
  • Oasis Group (Wednesdays).
  • Music and Liturgy (Wednesday 1:45).
  • Christian Drama (Wednesday 2:30).
  • Bible Study (Thurdays).
  • Social Justice and CAFOD (Fridays).

In each of these groups there is a focus on action to achieve aims consistent with the Christian values that the College professes. In general terms each group is formed by a core membership which looks outward to involve all members of the College community in action in support of a number of projects throughout the year.
