This programme has been designed for young people, both male and female, who have a passion and talent for football and who wish to pursue their football development alongside enhancing their academic status.

Students will study the Extended Diploma in Sport (3 A-level equivalent) alongside football coaching and match play. The programme is unique in that its primary focus is one of ‘Academics First’ which is strongly supported by a professional academy standard training programme that allows students to develop as a player, whilst preparing themselves for either Higher Education, Football Scholarships Abroad, Further Training or Employment.

Methods of Teaching and Learning

Students will receive regular reviews about their performance at the same time as academic reviews and will also benefit from the expert coaching of our Total Pro Coaching Team. All coaches are a minimum of Level 2 with our Head Coaches being a minimum of UEFA A Licensed Coaches.

Students will benefit from a wide range of coaching and delivery methods to suit their own individual and the whole squad needs. Training will be based around a professional academy setting and thus students should expect to be challenged to work at a high standard both physically, technically and tactically. The academy programme also benefits from having a goalkeeping coach to work with our goalkeepers separately to the outfield players and provide them with the technical and physical guidance to improve their game.

Enrichment

Alongside their academic programme, students will be invited to take part in a diverse range of enrichment opportunities that will help to develop their higher education and employability profile. Examples include becoming a member of the Sport & Leisure Career Academy, undertaking the FA Level 1 coaching badge, volunteering in the community with any number of our partners (including becoming a member of the FA Football Futures Programme) and even becoming a member of our Sports Union ‘Student Management Team’.

Method of Assessment

This programme offers the opportunity for both verbal and written assessment throughout the year and will be carried out in an official capacity alongside academic reviews.

Resources

Sports and Academy students at St. Brendans have access to an excellent range of facilities which are used to support your learning and football development. These include: A multi purpose sports hall and outdoor facilities; fitness suite; access to GOALS; the use of South Bristol Sports Centre and Keynsham Town FC; teaching rooms and IT facilities. Students are advised that they will be required to purchase the Total Pro Soccer training and match kit at a cost of £150.

What can I do next?

Students on the TPS Football Education Programme will typically be considering similar progression routes to those of their academic peers.

In addition to university and or employment, students may also wish to pursue their footballing career and thus progression onto Scholarships in America is one of the exit routes that we explore with the students.
