Kaplan is the UK’s leading financial training provider. Their national Scholarship Programme gives 19 specially-selected students the chance to carry out an Accountancy Apprenticeship followed by their further professional Accountancy qualification, (AAT, ATT, ICAEW CFAB or CIMA), and is worth circa £15k. Sophie is the fourth winner of the South West Scholarship from St Brendan’s in the last 5 years. Rob Philips, Kaplan Centre Manager for Wales and South West led the interview panel. He explained: “The calibre of applications was very high this year with hundreds of applications across the country and approximately 30 locally. A shortlist of 5 candidates was invited for interview – this comprised a panel of 5 employers and included a 10 minute presentation on "Why you would like to be an accountant.” We were very impressed with Sophie's CV as it clearly showed that she understood how important work experience is, and she had taken the initiative to seek out several work placement opportunities for herself. It also showed that she had really investigated Accountancy as a career and given this a lot of thought. Her involvement in the Business Career Academy at St Brendan’s was also very interesting to hear about and discuss at interview”.
