Privacy Statement
St Brendan's website and your Privacy
This site is owned and operated by Saint Brendan's Sixth Form College. This policy refers to the public pages - those beginning "www.stbrn.ac.uk/", Moodle - pages beginning "moodle.stbrn.ac.uk/" and any pages beginning "intranet.stbrn.ac.uk/". Where pages on this site contain links to other sites, we are not responsible for their policies or practices relating to privacy.
Your privacy on the Internet is of the utmost importance to us.
Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand our policy and the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we gather and how we use it.
Information that St Brendan's website gathers and tracks
St Brendan's website gathers two types of information about users:
- Information that users provide through optional, voluntary submissions. These are submissions via forms and/or email to receive information and/or a prospectus.
- Information St Brendan's website gathers through aggregated tracking information. This is gathered mainly by tallying page views throughout our sites. This information allows us to tailor our content to readers' needs. Under no circumstances does St Brendan's divulge any information about an individual user to a third party.
Processes Used to Gather and Track Information
Optional Voluntary Information
1. Prospectus Form (prospectus.php)
You can request a prospectus via this form. The information you submit during this process is used only:
- in the case of transmission errors
- to reply to your email or forward you a prospectus
- Provide other appropriate information.
This information will not be shared with any other organisation and is stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
Usage tracking
St Brendan's server tracks user traffic patterns throughout all of our sites. However, no personal information is collected for this purpose. St Brendan's server does break down overall usage statistics according to a user's domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string (information contained in every user's browser when they access any website).
Cookies
It is possible to browse through www.stbrn.ac.uk/ without using a cookie. Other secure areas and web services at St Brendan's may require a cookie to be placed on your computer (for example, Moodle uses a session cookie, and the colour/font style switcher).
If you wish to use the colour/font style switcher, a cookie is used to remember your colour preferences. The cookie is called 'sitestyle2008' and is only placed on your computer if you choose a colour/font theme. No personal information is stored in this cookie. If we decide to use any other cookies at any time in the future, notification will be made on this page.
You can refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. If you have set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies, you will receive the warning message with each cookie. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use the public site. However, you do need cookies to participate in Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment. Moodle uses a session cookie. It does not collect any personal information and is destroyed when you logout or close your browser or exit Moodle in any other way. This cookie is usually called 'MoodleSessionmoodle'. You must allow this cookie in your browser in order to retain your login throughout your visit to Moodle.
Moodle also uses a cookie to record your username in the login page. It is usually called 'MOODLEID_moodle'. You do not have to allow this cookie, but it only holds your login name and no personal details. This cookie is not deleted at the end of your session, but you can delete it manually if you wish.
Use and Sharing of Information
As stated above, we use information that users voluntarily provide in order to send out prospectuses, information and to reply to questions raised. St Brendan's never shares personal data obtained via this website with any third parties except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users or the public.
We use tracking information to form opinion on which areas of our sites users like and don't like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you.
Opt-Out Policy
We give users options wherever necessary and practical. Such choices include:
Opting not to send us any personal information or opting to send information via alternative methods ie post or telephone, thereby alleviating the need to gather any personally identifiable information via the website.
Reviewing Your Information
If at any time you would like clarification on our policy, or if you would like to see, update or have us delete any personal information of yours we hold, please email the Principal's Assistant.
Your Consent
By using this site, you consent to the collection and use of this information by St Brendan's Sixth Form College. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.
