These practical, work-related courses are designed for students who wish to gain a broad range of knowledge about dynamic business environments. Students must be prepared to work independently and to deadlines.

Business Virtual Open Event Presentation
The qualifications provide an opportunity to study the key areas of business and to apply these to selected organisations.
All students will study the following core units:
- Exploring Business
- Developing a Marketing Campaign
- Personal and Business Finance
- Recruitment and Selection Process
Students taking the Diploma will also study:
- Managing an Event
- International Business
- Principles of Management
- Team Building in Business
Methods of Teaching and Learning
The courses are taught by well qualified and experienced staff with business backgrounds. You will learn through case studies, group work and presentations, before completing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations.
Enrichment
The courses include a number of visits to local businesses. Guest speakers may be invited to explain how concepts studied in lessons are actually applied in the business environment. You will be encouraged to apply to take part in the Careers Ready Programme.
Method of Assessment
All new specifications will be assessed through a mixture of internally assessed assignments and externally assessed units.
Extended Certificate = External assessment (58%)
National Diploma = External assessment (45%)
External assessment will be set and marked by the exam board. There will be two opportunities for you to take the external assessments. An overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction Star is then awarded.

The College has excellent ICT facilities, internet, text books, case studies, business documents and links with real businesses.
Progression
Qualifications are valued by employers and higher education. The BTEC Level 3 qualifications attract the same UCAS points as A-levels. A business qualification could also support you when applying for jobs in business related careers such as accounting, administration, customer service, finance, IT, human resource management, marketing or sales.
Entry Requirements
You are required to have five GCSE passes at grade 4 or above, including Mathematics and English.
Additional Costs
During the course students are charged for printing and there are also costs incurred when privately buying reliable storage devices to back up their electronic files. In addition, a number of visits may be arranged which will require students to pay.
