This course is for students who have a general interest in computing and it will help students to develop knowledge and understanding of the Information and Communications Technology sector.
It is for any student who has a basic level of IT competency and is able to work independently or in small groups to solve problems within deadlines.
Units of Study
The Course comes in two qualifications; the Extended Certificate and Technical Diploma. The Extended Certificate consists of four units including IT essentials, cyber security, and data analysis and emerging technology. The Diploma includes 8 units and offers study opportunities in business solutions, digital marketing, visual design and pitching a product.

The course is taught by well qualified and experienced staff. Students learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace scenarios. Teaching methods include presentations of new topics, small group discussions, peer assessed tasks and allow plenty of time to develop practical skills in visual design software or spreadsheets.
The core units are assessed through 2 external exams and all other units are centre assessed coursework. Students will sit exams in January or May following a fully inclusive set of revision sessions and coaching to ensure a great performance on the day.
All students are invited to attend a team-building day in the autumn term and are required to attend a work experience placement in June. A visit to a local IT or Media organisation will be planned each year to add to the students understanding of information technology used in an up to date business environment.
The College is well furnished with over 60 PC workstations for IT students and a wide of the most up to date industry standard software. We also a have a range of hardware resources for students use such as video cameras and scanners. We also have extra software for help desk support and a class set of PC hardware on which to install and configure new devices when required.
This course gives students the skills to take forward onto a modern apprenticeship, or for further progression onto a higher level of study.
