At St Brendans we recognise the importance of students gaining first hand experience of the workplace through workplace visits, work shadowing or work experience.
We have developed extensive links with both local and national employers to source work experience placements for students.
All students have the opportunity to apply for a range of structured work experience programmes with employers to help with their exploration of career opportunities and expand their networks. These include employers such as the Ministry of Justice, Barclays, GKN, Rolls Royce and Airbus.
Each year we are allocated a small number of placements with local healthcare trusts for students commited to a career in health.
Our careers ready programme allows succesful applicants to take part in a paid summer internship and to work with an employer mentor.
The latest opportunities are sent to all students through our Careers News work experience bulletin, email and twitter.
All Access to Level 3 learners complete 1 week of work experience in June as part of their programme. Health and Social Care students complete an extra week in December.
All health and social care diploma students will require a week work experience at the end of year one.
Students on applied courses such as IT, Business , Science, Performing Arts, Sport and Law are given the opportunity to to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace through our themed career days in the spring term.
