FAQs for September Starters & their parents

September 2020 Admissions – FAQs

We are aware how uncertain things must feel at the moment for every Year 11 student, but we want to reassure you that the current situation will not affect your future plans to join St Brendan’s Sixth Form College. Below we have put together answers to some of the most frequently asked questions that we have received:

Can I still apply to St Brendan’s?

Yes! Just click here to complete an online application form. You can find details about all of our courses and entry requirements on our website.

Once we receive your application, if we have all the information we need, we will send you an offer. If you are applying for Access to Level 3 or we need more information, we’ll arrange for a member of our Admissions Team to give you a call.

How can I access support or advice about my application?

Please email: info@stbrn.ac.uk with your name and what you’d like us to help with. We’ll arrange for the best person to help to get in touch with you.

I had an interview scheduled but it now can’t take place. What will happen?

A member of the Admissions Team will contact you to talk through your application if we need more information. If we have everything we need, we will send you an offer.

If you need to contact us about the interview that you had scheduled, please email: applicationadmin@stbrn.ac.uk (please include your full name and date of birth).

What if I’d like to change one of my courses?

Please drop an email to applicationadmin@stbrn.ac.uk with your full name and date of birth. Tell us the course you’d like to drop and which course you’d like to replace it with. Please make sure you check the website first for details of entry requirements. A member of the Admissions Team will let you know once the changes have been made.

Will I still get in even though I’m not sitting my exams?

The Government have cancelled all GCSE exams this summer and we’re following their guidance on the new grading system. At enrolment in August, when you have received your results, our experienced staff will be on hand to help build a programme of study for you.

If you have accepted your offer of a place at St Brendan’s and you achieve our Level 3 minimum entry criteria of 5 GCSE grade 4s (including English Language or Literature), you are guaranteed a Level 3 programme at the college.

If you achieve 4 GCSE grade 3s or above (including at least a 3 in English Language and a 2 in Maths), you are guaranteed a place at St Brendan’s on our Access to Level 3 Programme.

Can I start preparing for College and completing work now?

Yes! Here is the link to our Head Start programme of study for students joining the college this September. You will also be able to find this in the September Starters section of our website.

Can I come and visit the College?

We are following Government guidance on when we can re-open. We will contact you when we are safely allowed to re-open and will confirm whether or not we are able to run our New Student Days. In the meantime, check out our website for our college film and virtual tour!

Can I talk to someone about getting support in place for when I start College?

Of course, we’d love to hear from you. We want to make sure everyone feels supported when they start at St Brendan’s. Please email: info@stbrn.ac.uk with your name and a contact number and we will get in touch.

When is the deadline for accepting my offer of a place? Can I wait until my results come out?

There is no need to wait until you have your results come to accept your place. We are keen to get to know you and wouldn’t want you to miss out on a place on a popular subject. You will have an advice and guidance session when you enrol and know your results and it is OK to make changes to your planned programme of study at that point.

I have an offer from another college too, can I still accept your offer?

Yes. It is important to choose the right college or school and courses for you as an individual. You need to decide which will give you the greatest chance of success, fulfilment, enjoyment and future progression. It has to feel right and it might take a few more months for you to make up your mind – many students accept more than one offer and don’t make their final decision until they have their results and that is absolutely fine.

We hope that you found this list of FAQs helpful – if you have a question that has not been answered here, please do not hesitate to contact us by email: info@stbrn.ac.uk or via any of our social media channels (@stbrendansSFC)
