This year has arguably been one of the toughest and most unpredictable years students have ever faced. From adapting to home learning to significant exams changes, those completing their studies in 2021 were up against a number of challenges that tested everyone involved.

Despite this, those same students have achieved record success at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College. Their hard work and determination has secured them the positive destinations they truly deserve and we are incredibly proud of them all.

Our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure students are able to progress onto higher education and apprenticeships and we look forward to hearing about their achievements in the future.

479 students (60% of students) are progressing to university, the highest number of students to do so from St Brendan’s in the last four years. 26% of students are progressing directly on to employment or an apprenticeship.

Of those going to university, 121 (15%) have secured places at a Russell Group University. These are a competitive group of 24 world-class, research-intensive universities.

Students have also secured a diverse range of top apprenticeships with leading employers, including EY, Co-op Legal Services and the NHS.

The college's Aspire Programme, aimed at helping high achieving students, has consistently supported students to gain places on some of the most competitive and sought after degree programmes in the country. This year over 80% of Aspire students are progressing on to university.

Principal Marian Curran said,

"Once again, we have seen an increase in the number of students successfully securing courses at universities across the country. This year over 60% of our leavers are progressing into higher education to continue their education. We know that that they will be an inspiration to our new cohort of students in terms of being ambitious and aiming high. To see two thirds of our leavers choose university is recognition of this ambition. We love staying in touch with our alumni and can’t wait to follow their careers and accomplishments.

Students who choose St Brendan’s Sixth Form College receive pastoral and careers support, coupled with an outstanding quality of teaching and learning across all programmes and subjects. Congratulations to the class of 2021 who coped well in difficult circumstances and displayed enormous resilience. This will hopefully enable them to succeed in realising their future dreams.”
