STEM students at St Brendan’s had another interesting visitor last week as Dr Celia Watson came into College to discuss an area of science which is very rarely contemplated.

 Dr Watson is a Material Scientist at Cranfield University and specialises in designing and testing body armour! The guest spoke about her experiences within her field and went into high levels of detail about her findings within the area – sharing thoughts on design, weapons and the molecular shape of armour; students were also able to look at examples of her work.

Dr Watson encouraged students to think about a different aspect of science which they wouldn’t normally discuss and made many realise just how unusual and interesting careers within the STEM sector can be! As Dr Watson’s work amalgamated many different subject areas such as Chemistry, Physics, Textile Design and even History, she highlighted the many exciting opportunities available to the St Brendan’s STEM students after College
