The Sports Union joined in the national initiative and launched the inaugural St Brendan’s 'Women in Sport Week' to raise the aspirations and participation of young women in sport and to help them to realise their potential both on and off the sports field.

The week saw an array of female focused sports events with a 3v3 basketball tournament, 5-a-side football tournament (to which we welcomed female participants from City of Bath and South Devon Colleges), self-defence classes and the week long 'Duathlon Challenge' that saw both staff and students compete for the fastest time over a 10km cycle and 2km row.

Alongside this, we were very lucky to have Caroline Chapman, a journalist for the BBC come and speak to Sport & English students about routes into journalism and the trials and tribulations of working in a male dominated sector. A number of students have since expressed an interest in pursuing journalism at H.E. and have linked up with Caroline for further advice and work experience. The week was a great success with over 75 female members of the college taking part in one or more of the activities.
