Around 48 million people will have the chance to vote in today’s local elections – including over 600 eligible sixth form students at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College!

In preparation for this, the College’s Students’ Union recently organised an event titled ‘Why Your Vote Matters’ for students. This included a live Q&A with members of both Bristol Young Labour and Bristol Young Conservatives.

The sixth formers quizzed the party members on many issues including their housing policies and their stance on whether the voting age should change.

One issue that they were very keen to explore was transport, especially buses and whether public transport should be free for those in full time education – an issue very close to their hearts!

The event concluded with a pitch from the visitors about the benefits of voting for each party for young people.
