BTEC triple Sport student Shantae - Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, Indonesia
Shantae has been training in gymnastics since she was six, starting at Bristol Hawks Gym. Specialising in artistic gymnastics, she competes individually across multiple apparatus, including bars, beams, floor, vault, and routines with ball and hoop. This year marks her first as a senior competitor, travelling internationally and performing alongside athletes who have previously competed in the Olympics.
Despite the intense demands of international competition, Shantae balances her rigorous training schedule—five sessions per week, including two double sessions totalling eight hours—with her studies at St Brendan’s. While on the road, the College supports her by sending coursework, allowing her to continue her BTEC studies without interruption.

Shantae - now training for LA 2028 Olympics
Shantae’s ambitions are clear: she is training for the LA 2028 Olympics and also has her sights set on the Commonwealth Games, as well as European and World Championships. Looking further ahead, she hopes to compete in at least three more Olympic cycles, demonstrating her dedication and long-term commitment to the sport.
Her achievements are a testament not only to her talent and perseverance but also to the support networks around her, from her coaches to the College staff who ensure her academic progress continues alongside her sporting excellence. Shantae’s journey highlights how determination, structured training, and flexible education can combine to help young athletes reach the very top of their field.
