It’s normal to feel stress ahead of receiving your Level 3 results, but your hard work and focussed attention on your A Level or vocational courses over the last two years should bring you some confidence in your abilities.

It’s important to remember, there are plenty of choices and paths ahead of you. If you don’t get what you were hoping for on A Level results day this week, you can adapt, and keep pursuing your dreams.

Here are some tips to keep yourself cool, calm and collected ahead of results day:

Take time to take care of yourself

Creating time to do things you enjoy and that will relax you in the days leading up to results day. Whether that’s organising seeing friends, family, days out, playing sport or relaxing at home watching films, playing videogames or reading.

Whatever your hobbies are, it’s important that you prioritise making time for yourself. Self-care is an effective tool in regulating your emotions. Keeping yourself busy will help you manage worry, and focus less on the upcoming results day.

Get rest

Sleep is so important for managing stress and overall energy levels. Reducing your screen time, and slowing down close to bed time by reading, doing light yoga or meditating can be helpful for getting your mind to rest. Try to minimise screen or harsh light and noise when trying to get to sleep.

Make a plan for the day

If you’re feeling anxious ahead of results day, being organised and writing out a timetable for the day itself could be a useful tool to help you feel more in control. Knowing what’s coming up, can help you break down the day into manageable chunks so it feels less overwhelming.

Reach out to friends or family if you’re able, and remember you have lots of peers going through the same experience. Knowing you have time organised to see or speak to loved ones, means you can share your experience and get the comfort of knowing you will see or speak to someone you trust.

Have your options ready

Looking at the University route? Make sure you know the contact numbers or routes for your chosen University and insurance choice, and research clearing options in advance. UCAS have lots of information ready for students on checking your status on results day.
