The OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Health and Social Care is a work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations and activities. It will introduce you to the health and social care industry, and provide a good basis to go on to study the subject at Level 3 or go on to employment or apprenticeships in health and social care settings.

OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Health and Social Care is a full-time course and is equivalent to three GCSEs grade 4-9. You will study a variety of units, four of which are assessed through coursework with another two being examined.

Assessment and Placement/Work Experience

You will be set assignments which you will complete to agreed deadlines. Most units are assessed and graded internally by course teachers. Two units are examined. A Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* will be awarded when all units have been completed.

Compulsory Placement/Work Experience

You will undertake a one-week, work experience placement in a health, social or childcare setting in March as part of the course. Students are expected to find their own suitable placement.

Disclosure and Barring Service check

The College will cover the cost of any DBS checks. Students will be required to provide documents such as a passport and utility bills.

A New Way of Working

The course is taught by experienced and well-qualified staff. Emphasis will be on students taking responsibility for their own learning.  Monitoring and assessment of coursework is continual and students must work in their own time to complete assignments to agreed deadlines.

Progression

Students gaining Merit grades or above may be considered for the advanced course: Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care (equivalent to 1 A-level) and the Technical Diploma in Health and Social Care (equivalent to 2 A-levels).

OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Health and Social Care is valued when applying for jobs and apprenticeships.

Charges

There may be travel costs involved for attending work experience. Students are expected to apply for a DBS check for placements but the College will pay for these.
