Dr Avison, is a very enthusiastic expert in the field of antibiotic research and gave a very interesting and sometimes amusing talk! Students learnt why it’s so important to only use antibiotics when it’s absolutely necessary and how new antibiotics could be developed, if only the funding was available.

One of the students from Broadlands said ‘It was very interesting and has definitely inspired me to want to keep on studying science at St Brendan’s and also at university’. In a second session, Dr Glen Wakely, from Bristol University gave a talk on Bone Health – Lessons from Space Flight. Eighteen science enthusiasts in years 10 and 11 from local schools joined our students for this talk.
