This one-year course is designed to make sure you revise and master all the key topics and skills you need, to give you the best chance to improve your grade, pass your exam and progress to your next stage of your journey.

 

Course Content

Topics include number work, algebra, geometry, statistics and shapes and spaces.

 

Methods of assessment

This course is assessed by written examinations in November or May/June.

Throughout the course, the progress of each student is assessed and monitored by regular assignments and mock examinations.

Final exam consists of 3 papers,

  • Paper 1: Non-calculator paper, 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Paper 2: Calculator paper, 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Paper 3: Calculator paper, 1 hour 30 minutes

Progression

Students are expected to improve at least one grade. A grade 4/5 opens up opportunities for students  such as university, employment, progression to level 3 courses

Methods of teaching and learning

The course is taught by well qualified and experienced staff, With a variety of teaching methods and the best suited methods will be used according to the conversation teachers and students have. Students are expected to do a substantial amount of revision and practice outside the classroom.

Resources

The College is well stocked with Mathematics textbooks, and students are encouraged to use online resources as appropriate. Students are expected to provide their own scientific calculators and geometry sets.
