School Liaison

At St Brendan’s Sixth Form College, we believe successful post‑16 education starts well before students arrive on campus. Our School Liaison programme focuses on working in partnership with secondary schools, parents and carers to ensure young people have clear, accurate and timely information about their post‑16 options.

Our approach is supportive, inclusive and transparent, helping students feel confident about their next steps and families feel reassured throughout the decision‑making process.

Building strong partnerships with schools

We work closely with local and regional secondary schools to support students as they prepare for the transition to post‑16 education. These partnerships are built on shared goals: raising aspirations, supporting informed choice and ensuring students move on to pathways that suit their strengths and ambitions.

Our School Liaison activity complements the work schools already do, providing an additional layer of guidance and clarity rather than duplication.

Supporting students, parents and carers

Choosing what to do after GCSEs can feel daunting for both students and families. School Liaison helps ensure that parents and carers have access to clear, consistent and reliable information, so they can support their young person with confidence.

We aim to explain post‑16 routes, entry requirements and support services in plain English, helping families understand what sixth form college life is like and how students are supported once they arrive.

What our school liaison work includes

School Liaison activity may include:

  • Attendance at school‑based careers events and options evenings
  • Talks and presentations for students preparing for post‑16 study
  • Opportunities for students to visit the College and explore facilities
  • Sharing up‑to‑date information about courses, entry requirements and pathways
  • Working alongside teachers, careers leaders and pastoral teams

All activities are delivered in a way that respects school timetables, safeguarding procedures and individual student needs.

Supporting smooth transitions to post-16 study

Transitioning from school to sixth form college is a significant step. Our School Liaison work helps students understand what to expect, build confidence and feel prepared for the increased independence of post‑16 education.

This includes clear communication about:

  • Study expectations and independent learning
  • Support available for wellbeing and additional needs
  • How students are guided during their first weeks at College
