Pathways

There are many ways of studying at St Brendan's Sixth Form College, depending on your future ambitions or expected results following GCSE's. 

Level 3 pathways

Pathway Entry requirements Programme Progression
Pathway 1 Aspire / All A-Levels 7.0 average GCSE grade average (6.5 widening participation). One grade 4 or above can be replaced with a BTEC merit. 3 X A Levels, or equivalent. Unless students are studying Further Maths, a Language or core Maths in which case 4 are accepted. Students can enrol on EPQ in year 12 HE/ Apprenticeships / employment
Pathway 2 – Blended A Level/applied courses At least 5 grade 4 GCSE’s or above, including English Language and Maths. One grade 4 or above can be replaced with a BTEC merit. 3 X A Levels, or equivalent. Unless taking Further Maths or Core Maths (where it complements the study programme) - students should choose 3 courses or the equivalent of 3 courses. This can be a mixture of OCR/BTEC and A Levels. GCSE Maths will be a 4th subject, if only grade 3 was achieved. HE/ Apprenticeships / employment
Pathway 3 - Level 3 courses (GCSE English Language at Grade 3) At least 5 x Grade 4 at GCSE - with GCSE English Language Grade 3, GCSE English Literature Grade 4 or above and GCSE Maths at Grade 4 or above. A ‘merit’ in a BTEC can be used to replace one of the Grade 4s 3 X A Levels, or equivalent. Students with a Grade 3 must be enrolled on GCSE English Language. Students must have passed Maths GCSE at Grade 4. They cannot take 2 GCSEs alongside Level 3. HE/ Apprenticeships / employment

Level 2 pathways

Pathways Entry requirements Programme Progression
Access to Level 3 At least 4 x Grade 3 at GCSE including a minimum of Grade 3 in English Language and Grade 3 in Maths. One BTEC ‘Pass’ can replace one Grade 3. 5 GCSE Programme, usually to include one Diploma or Extended Certificate alongside GCSE Maths/English re-sits. Students should not enrol on to up to a a subject they achieved at Level 2 Level 3 study at St. Brendan’s or elsewhere, apprenticeships, employment.
