Our Access to Level 3 programme is designed to help you build the skills, confidence and qualifications you need to take your next step.
What is the Access to Level 3 programme?
Access to Level 3 is a one-year programme for students who want to progress to A Levels, Level 3 BTECs or other advanced qualifications but have not yet met the entry requirements.
You'll study a personalised timetable equivalent to five GCSEs, designed to help you strengthen your academic skills and prepare for Level 3 study. Along the way, you'll benefit from specialist teaching, excellent facilities and dedicated support.

This programme is for ambitious students who are ready for a fresh start and want to progress to Level 3 qualifications.
You may be suitable for Access to Level 3 if:
- You want to study A Levels or Level 3 vocational courses in the future.
- You need more time to develop your skills and confidence.
- You want a supportive pathway into advanced study.
- You're motivated to achieve your long-term goals.
After completing the programme, most students will then continue their studies at St Brendan’s for a further 2 years, having achieved the entry requirements to access the College’s A-level / Level 3 programme. For those who decide not to continue at St Brendan’s, this programme provides a fantastic stepping stone to a range of other training and educational opportunities, which we will support you in achieving.
Entry Requirements
To join the Access to Level 3 programme, you'll need:
- A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above
- Including GCSE English Language at grade 3
- Including GCSE Maths at grade 3
- Some subject pathways may have additional requirements
If you have not yet achieved GCSE grade 4 in English Language or Maths, you'll re-sit these qualifications as part of your programme to support your future progression.
Study routes and pathways
Our Access to Level 3 programme has four pathways; Business, Health & Social Care, Public Services and Sport. Learners choose one pathway, and supplement their learning with additional GCSE's and Level 2 equivalent qualifications.
Business
From small start-ups to dominating giants, you will gain a thorough understanding of all aspects of business, from leadership and structure, through to marketing, finance and HR.
Additional courses
To complete the Access to Level 3 programme, students will have to select several additional courses including:

- Level 2 BTEC Law
