This week, St Brendan’s Sixth Form College was delighted to welcome the Anglican Youth Fellowship Band from Uganda for a special visit that brought music, reflection and a strong sense of global connection to our College community.
The visit came about through a personal connection with Kampala via our College chaplain. When we learned that the band would be in Bristol for a short time, we were keen to invite them to St Brendan’s—particularly as their visit coincided with the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, a time dedicated to celebrating shared faith, collaboration and understanding across Christian communities worldwide.

Although the band’s time in the UK was limited to just a few days, they made a lasting impression during their visit. They joined our Christian Union meeting in the Chapel, where they spoke openly and warmly about their experiences of faith, community life and music in Uganda. Students had the opportunity to listen, reflect and learn about how faith is expressed and lived in different cultural contexts.
Later in the day, the band performed for students and staff in Café Max, filling the space with joyful songs, rhythmic music and an infectious positivity. The lunchtime performance created a vibrant atmosphere and brought people together, offering a moment of celebration and shared experience within the College day.

The Anglican Youth Fellowship Band have visited Bristol previously and were also performing in churches across the city during their stay. We are proud that St Brendan’s could be part of their journey and grateful that they chose to spend time with our community. Their visit was a truly uplifting experience and a wonderful reminder of the power of music, faith and international friendship to inspire and connect us all.
