Celebrating A Level Dance Success: Felix and Gi Progress to Prestigious Dance Schools
We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of two outstanding A Level Dance students at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College, Felix and Gi, who are progressing to some of the UK’s most prestigious professional dance training institutions.
Felix has secured a place at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London, while Gi will be training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance Conservatoire (NSCD). These are exceptional accomplishments and a testament to their talent, dedication and passion for dance.
A Passion for Dance from an Early Age
Both Felix and Gi have been committed to dance from a young age, building strong foundations across multiple disciplines.
Gi was raised as a young athlete, training extensively in ballet for 13 years, competing nationally in synchronised swimming, exploring her Brazilian heritage through Capoeira, and working with RISE Youth Dance Company. These varied experiences have helped shape her into a versatile and expressive dancer:
“Dance for me is an innate love and necessity. I’ve always loved connecting to my body, harnessing my energy through movement, and sharing that connection with others.”
Felix began dancing at just four years old, inspired by his sister. Starting with modern before moving into ballet, he went on to train in tap, ballet, modern, jazz and contemporary, attending associate programmes and achieving scholarships along the way.
Earning Places at Leading UK Dance Conservatoires
Both students successfully navigated highly competitive audition processes.
Gi applied directly to NSCD, submitting written responses about her artistic inspirations and ambitions before being invited to audition. The process included improvisation, workshops in contemporary, ballet and Afro fusion, and group choreography tasks:
“The best trick when auditioning is to enter like you already have it. I let myself play and enjoy what I love, which allowed me to show my fullest capacity.”
Felix undertook a rigorous two-stage audition for Rambert, involving a solo performance, ballet and contemporary classes, creative tasks, and an interview.
These experiences not only tested their technical ability but also their creativity, resilience and individuality as performers.
The Impact of Dance at St Brendan’s
Both Felix and Gi credit their time at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College as an important part of their journey.
Gi reflects on the opportunity to combine creativity with education:
“I love the way I was able to incorporate dance into college life. It kept my love for dance continuously present and gave me access to the studio whenever I needed it. I’m incredibly grateful for that space.”
Felix highlights the supportive environment within the course:
“My favourite thing about dance at St Brendan’s is the incredible amount of support from my teachers and peers. There is a real sense of community within this course.”
Our A Level Dance programme is designed to support both the practical and theoretical development of students, helping them progress to higher education and professional training in the performing arts.
Looking to the Future
Both students have ambitious plans for their futures in the dance industry.
Gi hopes to continue training by completing an MA in Contemporary Dance Performance with VERVE, before touring with a professional company and pursuing choreography.
Felix aspires to tour professionally with a dance company and eventually begin choreographing original work.
Felix and Gi’s success highlights the strength of dance education at St Brendan’s and the opportunities available to students pursuing careers in the arts.
We are excited to see what the future holds for them and look forward to following their journeys as they step into the professional dance world.
Congratulations, Felix and Gi - your futures are incredibly bright.
