Choosing where to study after Year 11 is a big moment. At St Brendan’s Sixth Form College, our goal is simple: to help every student feel confident, supported and excited about their next steps. With one of the broadest and most flexible post-16 curriculums in the region, we’re proud to offer learning pathways that help young adults grow into capable, compassionate, future-ready individuals.

St Brendan’s offers 40 A Level subjects and 19 Level 3 Applied General qualifications, with further specialist pathways and a strong Access to Level 3 programme. Combined with a modern, university-style campus and over 60 academic and vocational courses, students benefit from specialist spaces for science, design, sport, and performing arts to support a rich and exciting learning experience.

A Curriculum Designed for Real Futures

Flexible Learning Pathways

Young people thrive when they can shape their education around their interests, strengths, and aspirations. At St Brendan’s, students can choose between:

· A Levels

· BTECs

· AAQs (Applied and Alternative Advanced Qualifications)

· Mixed programmes combining both A Levels and vocational study

This flexibility ensures every student builds a timetable that works for them - whether they love academic study, hands-on learning, or a blend of both.

Our curriculum has one purpose: to give every young person the chance to build a future they can feel proud of. Flexibility, breadth and excellent teaching sit at the heart of everything we offer. A futureproof curriculum isn't just about preparing students for exams. It's about giving them the confidence, skills and mindset to succeed in a changing world.

Access to Level 3 Programme

Some students arrive ready for full Level 3 study, while others benefit from an additional year to build confidence, skills and GCSE equivalents. The Access to Level 3 programme supports progression across pathways such as Business, Sport, Health & Social Care and Public Services.

It’s a supportive stepping-stone that helps students grow and move into higher-level qualifications smoothly and successfully.

Breadth of Curriculum: More Choice, More Opportunity

At St Brendan’s, breadth isn’t about having a long list of subjects; it’s about ensuring every young person finds their place. Students can choose from STEM, humanities, creative arts, languages, social sciences and more, with each area backed by high-quality teaching and well-resourced learning environments.

Specialist facilities include:

· A performing arts building with studios and theatre spaces

· Modern laboratories for science subjects

· A design and technology workshop equipped with advanced tools

· Sports facilities including a county-standard sports hall and fitness suite

These spaces give students the freedom to explore, experiment and excel. From investigating chemical reactions, rehearsing a dance piece, editing media projects to developing engineering prototypes.

Futureproof Teaching and Strong Support Systems

A futureproof curriculum relies on excellent teaching and a strong support network around every student. At St Brendan’s, our staff combine academic expertise with a genuine commitment to wellbeing.

Support That Makes a Difference

Our pastoral and academic support is woven through every study programme. Students can access:

· Tutorials

· Enrichment

· Religion, Philosophy and Ethics tutorials

· Inclusive Learning support for SEND needs

· Opportunities to build confidence, resilience and personal development skills

Students can feel reassured that they will be known, supported, and encouraged every step of the way.

Teaching That Builds Confidence

St Brendan’s is home to expert teachers who create an environment where students feel safe to ask questions, challenge themselves, and grow. This strong foundation helps many students progress into university, apprenticeships and employment, including highly competitive destinations.

We invest heavily in our teaching teams and facilities because every student deserves the right environment to thrive.
