What’s student life really like at St Brendan’s? According to our Student Union, the culture is lively, welcoming and full of opportunities to get involved.
“Energetic,” says Yara, Sports and Enrichment Officer, before adding “inclusive”. Evie, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer, describes St Brendan’s as both “welcoming” and “respectful”.
The energy on campus is always high. Beyond lessons, students love the chance to take part in a wide range of activities. From fitness challenges such as the Lapland Challenge – where students and staff walked, ran, rowed and cycled a virtual journey of 2,017 miles to Santa’s Village - to charity appeals, there is always something happening. Clubs and societies, from debate and dance to Dungeons and Dragons, give everyone a chance to “find their own vibe,” as Erika, Sustainability and Student Life Officer, puts it.
Inclusivity, respect and openness sit at the heart of life at St Brendan’s. A number of initiatives run throughout the year to promote acceptance and understanding. During Black History Month, a curated exhibition of Black Bristolians lined the walls of B Block, while during Languages Week academic staff were challenged to begin their lessons in a different language. Inclusion isn’t just a word at St Brendan’s - it’s lived every day. As Yara says, “There’s something for everyone.” Students are regularly encouraged to share their thoughts and experiences, either with the Student Union or through our Student Experience surveys. Erika tells us St Brendan’s is a community where your voice matters and students can “feel listened to.”
Supportive is another word our Student Union uses to describe the culture at St Brendan’s. “There is amazing academic support,” says Cassie, Student Union President, adding, “the teachers are so passionate.” One‑to‑one help is always available, as Erika explains, from both academic staff and Progress Tutors. Students can also access Careers Advice and Guidance throughout their time here, with our Welfare Team on hand to help with any health or wellbeing concerns.
That’s the culture at St Brendan’s: an energetic, inclusive and supportive sixth form college with plenty of opportunities to grow. Experience the culture our Student Union is proud to represent and start your journey with us today!
