St Brendan’s Sixth Form College student Elliane is celebrating Taekwondo success on the world stage.
Alongside her A-level studies in Law, Sociology and English, Elliane has already reached the elite level of her sport. A third-degree black belt in Taekwondo, she was selected to represent England as part of the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) national team. Chosen alongside two other athletes from the South West after a series of demanding national trials, she earned the opportunity to compete at the ITF World Championships in Croatia.
Selection for the national team is a significant achievement, reflecting years of dedication, discipline and commitment to the sport. Elliane’s instructor, Master Vaughan Buxton, a seventh-degree black belt and British, European and World title holder, said:
“They have worked incredibly hard over the years and it’s an amazing achievement to be selected to represent your country.”
Elliane is no stranger to high-level competition. She has previously won gold and silver medals at the European Championships and achieved her black belt at the remarkably young age of 11, demonstrating exceptional talent and focus from a young age.
More recently, she competed in the ITF English National Championships, where she placed first and claimed the national title. Competing against some of the strongest athletes in the country, her success highlights not only her technical skill and competitive experience, but also her resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
Elliane’s achievements are particularly impressive as she continues to balance the demands of elite-level sport alongside her academic studies at St Brendan’s. Her journey serves as an inspiring example of what can be achieved through hard work, perseverance and passion.
