BTEC Sport
BTEC Level 2 Sport is a practical, vocational pathway designed for students who are passionate about sport, fitness and physical activity. The courses combines practical performance, theory, coursework and external assessment to help you develop skills needed for further study or work in the sports industry. You can choose from courses worth the equivalent of two or three GCSE's.
This pathway is ideal if you enjoy hands‑on learning, working as part of a team and developing leadership skills. At St Brendan’s, learning is active, supportive and closely linked to real‑world sport and fitness settings.

Students will benefit from a wide range of teaching methods inclusive of lectures, peer work, presentations, practical study, individual project design, case study work, visiting speakers, and use of individual experience to reflect and learn. During the course students will be helped to develop their research skills and complete coursework by the deadlines given.
Method of Assessment
This course offers a range of both internal and external assessment.
Internal Assessment: In general, internal assessment is coursework based and students will complete a range of activities within each unit to evidence their learning.
External Assessment: In line with new guidelines, the course features two units that are externally assessed. This assessment takes the form of an online test that is set and marked by EDEXCEL. Students will be given sufficient tutor support and guidance in the build-up to each test to feel confident in their answers. Students should be aware that there will be a requirement to complete revision and homework in order to achieve in these external assessments.

Costs for trips, expeditions or additional courses that students are expected to attend may also apply
All costs will be discussed in advance.
There are no restricted subject combinations. Your wider ATL3 programme will be discussed to ensure it supports your progression goals.
Many students progress from Level 2 Sport to Level 3 (A‑level equivalent) sport courses. To be considered, students should:
Achieve a minimum of Merit–Merit overall
Maintain 90%+ attendance
Where applicable, achieve at least a one‑grade improvement in English and Mathematics
The course also supports progression into employment and apprenticeships within the sport and fitness industry.
