Why study Music Performance at St Brendan’s?
BTEC Level 3 Music Performance is a practical course for students interested in developing performance skills alongside music theory and industry knowledge.
The course is ideal for students aiming to improve as performers and explore careers in the music industry.
Entry requirements
- All applicants will be required to attend an in-person audition prior to starting the course. Applicants will be expected to prepare a solo piece on the instrument they intend to use (or voice) during the course. The course may become full for certain instruments/voice so early application and audition is advised. Applicants will receive an invitation to attend audition following receipt of their application.
- Auditions: We manage course numbers carefully to ensure full curriculum contact time and balanced bands. We let all auditionees know after their audition whether they have an offer for the course. In the case that we have already reached maximum capacity for your chosen instrument, your offer may be conditional. This means that your place will depend on there being sufficient space available for your chosen instrument at enrolment.

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above
GCSE English Language or Literature at grade 4
GCSE Maths at grade 3 or above
Music GCSE grade 4 or BTEC First in Music at Merit (desirable, not essential)
Instrumental or vocal ability around grade 4 (assessed by audition)
Willingness to take regular instrumental or vocal lessons
You will study a range of units across two years, including:
Preparation for rehearsal and performance
Music theory
The music industry
Performing in different styles such as Jazz, Punk, Reggae and Soul

tudents are expected to take regular one‑to‑one instrumental or vocal lessons, either in college or privately arranged.
These lessons incur a cost (for example, approximately £140 per term for 10 lessons when taken through college).
Students who qualify for the College Bursary Scheme may be able to receive financial support towards these costs
Music Performance can be combined with a range of other subjects, though combinations should support future progression goals.
