BTEC Law
BTEC Level 2 Law provides a strong introduction to how the legal system works and how law operates in everyday life. You’ll explore key areas such as police powers, criminal law and the court system, while developing skills in research, analysis and written communication.

The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Law is a 13-credit qualification. You will study the following units during the 1 year of study on the course:
- The English Legal System
- Police and their Powers
- Legal Requirements for Business Formation
- Criminal Law and Procedure
- Aspects of Consumer Protection Law and Practice
- Aspects of Family Welfare Law and Practice
- Aspects of Law Making
(Units are studied over the year and assessed through coursework.)

Teaching methods include lectures, case studies, discussions in large and small groups and occasional presentations by students; there are also opportunities to visit the courts and hear from guest speakers.
Students are expected to do some background reading, to make their own detailed notes and to write essay answers to past exam questions.
All units within the course are internally assessed - 100% coursework based.
There are no compulsory additional costs for this course. Any optional trips or visits will be discussed in advance.
There are no restricted subject combinations. Your wider programme will be discussed during guidance to ensure it supports your progression plans.
BTEC Level 2 Law supports progression to:
- Level 3 Law

- Apprenticeships or training routes
- Future careers including police officer, legal executive, paralegal or legal secretary
Enrichment opportunities include visits to Bristol Law Courts, access to a law library and talks from guest speakers such as barristers and representatives from law firms.
